Children Of God Are Heirs

The Bible teaches that as children of God, we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). We become children of God when we are "born of the water and of the Spirit" (John 3:5). As we conform our lives to the teachings of the Holy Spirit, "the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God" (Romans 8:16).

The question is, "What do we inherit as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ?"

The following are some of the blessings that we, as children of God, will inherit as heirs:

1) Heirs of "all things" (1 Corinthians 3:21-23; cf. Revelation 21:7).

2) "Heirs according to the promise" (Gal. 3:29).

3) "Heirs of salvation" (Hebrews 1:14).

4) "Heirs of righteousness" (Hebrews 11:7).

5) "Heirs of promise" (Hebrews 6:17).

6) "Heirs of eternal life" (Titus 3:7).

7) "Heirs of the kingdom" (James 2:5; cf. 1 Peter 1:3-4).

8) "Heirs together of the grace of life" (1 Peter 3:7).

As children of God, let us be thankful for the blessings we have a heirs, and then as Peter, praise God for the hope that we have in Christ Jesus (1 Peter 1:3-4).
