Giving Honor And Glory To God

How different an individual’s life would be if everything were done with a view to honoring and glorifying God — every thought, every word, every action directed toward this one goal.

Such direction would mean that all conscious decisions would be weighed carefully to see what kind of results they would produce (cf. 2 Corinthians 10:5). Hurtful words would never be spoken. Sinful behavior would never be practiced. Such things blaspheme the worthy name of God (cf. James 2:6-7).

However, God is still God even if we are not the kind of people we ought to be — He does not change because we do not give Him the glory.

The writer John tells us:
Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested” (Revelation 15:4; cf. Psalm 86:9; Jeremiah 10:7).
Wrong behavior may cause others to speak evil of God, but we are the ones who really lose when we fail to honor Him (1 Peter 3:12-17). As Christians, let us give honor and glory to God by doing those things that are pleasing in His sight (John 8:29; cf. 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17; 1 Peter 4:11).
