"We Have To Start Thinking Differently About Stuff"

In the current, July-August-September, 2014, Volume 45, Number 3 issue of the online Christian publication, "Think On These Things," brother David Diestelkamp presents the idea of using the "stuff" that we accumulate, in a profitable way, to help others and bring glory to God.

In his article entitled "Jim's Old Pickup Truck," brother Diestelkamp makes an excellent point and observation:
"What if we truly looked at everything we have as something to be used in view of our eternal destination? It means thinking of our cars as tools to help people, our houses as a means to be hospitable, our video games as a way of getting good young people connected, our food as a way of helping someone in need, our phones as a way to encourage the discouraged, social media as a way to spiritually connect and invite, our jobs as a means of connecting and making money to serve others, etc."
He concludes: "We have to start thinking differently about stuff."

And I add my "Amen" to brother Diestelkamp's above conclusion.

For example, In the past week, I've used my late father's old car (an item that was part of his "stuff") to help two people get their vehicles started when their engines wouldn't turn over. What did those two simple deeds cost me? Absolutely nothing but a little time and effort on my part. The two people that I helped, will not soon forget the simple deed that I did for them. And who knows, one day I may need some help from them in some fashion. Therefore, as brother Diestelkamp has suggested, we need to use our accumulated "stuff" to help others along life's way (2 Corinthians 8:8-15).

Dear reader, we can hoard "stuff" until we don't have any more room to hoard it, or we can more profitably use our "stuff" to help others and bring glory to God (Isaiah 43:7; Matthew 5:16). And guess what? We won't take any of our "stuff" with us when we pass from this life, so we might as well willingly and lovingly help others with the "stuff" that God has so graciously blessed us with (John 3:27; James 1:17).
