On Saturday, January 14, 2012, CBS News reported that a man with a cell phone experienced the alarm of that cell phone to go on and off repeatedly, interrupting a performance of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The ringtone on the cell phone was so distracting, that the conductor of the orchestra had to simply stop the performance. A sad occasion indeed.
This writer has experienced cell phones ringing in an adult Bible class setting as well as in an auditorium worship setting. It is not only very annoying and distracting to the teacher and the listeners, it is very rude as well.
Beloved, the Bible teaches that we are to come before our Creator with great reverence and respect (Hebrews 12:28; cf. 1 Peter 1:17-19). Are we doing that when we bring our cell phones into the church building, allowing them to ring in the middle of a worship service or in the middle of a Bible class?
This writer believes we already know the answer!
