Sadly, we live in a society today where the quantity of a product is emphasized over quality. In trying to cut costs, many companies are sacrificing quality and using second-hand or even defective materials.
The story is told of Henry Royce, co-founder of the Rolls-Royce Limited (founded in 1906), who was one day walking through his factory, when he overheard a lathe operator say, “Oh, that’ll do.” He then observed the man tossing a part into a basket. To the casual observer, the part looked okay, but Henry Royce expected his workmen to use a micrometer and be satisfied with nothing less than precision accuracy.
So when Mr. Royce heard the comment, he reprimanded the man by saying, “That may do for anyone else, but it will not do for Rolls-Royce.”
God is satisfied with nothing less than perfection. Divine specifications do not allow for any flaws. Jesus illustrated this in Matthew 5:21-48 when He said to His listeners, “You have heard” (the human standard). Then He said, “But I say to you” (God’s standard).
He highlighted the perfection by which God’s children should stand out from the crowd by focusing on the following six issues:
