What Can We Do For Our Country?

During President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address on January 20,1961, President Kennedy said the following inspiring words supporting the many freedoms we have in our great nation:

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.

He continued by saying:

My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man” (source).

What can we do for our country to maintain its many freedoms?

The wise man Solomon provides us the answer:

Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34; cf. Psalm 9:17).

Thus, the greatest good we can do for our country, is to be an example of righteousness (1 Timothy 4:12-16; Titus 2:1-8), simply by living a righteous life before God and our fellow man (Deuteronomy 6:25; Matthew 5:20 – see commentary; Acts 10:35; Romans 6:17-18; 1 Corinthians 15:34; 2 Corinthians 6:14; Ephesians 4:17-24; 1 Timothy 6:9-11; 2 Timothy 2:22; James 3:18; 1 John 3:10).
