Why Stick With Marriage?

It was with great interest, as I read the above titled article that speaks to the decline of marriage in our country. Author Maggie Gallagher quotes from a Pew Center analysis of American Community Survey data, released a few weeks ago, "found that less than half of American children live with a married couple who are both in their first marriage — the intact, nuclear, married family — down from 61 percent as recently as 1980."

And we wonder why we have kids killing kids! Because there is very little discipline or moral instruction in the home when both parents are not present, we have undisciplined children who have very little purpose or direction in life. This is why God established the home in the first place; so that children could receive the proper spiritual instruction from loving parents that would help them survive in a very ungodly and immoral world (Genesis 18:17-19; Ephesians 6:4; 2 Timothy 1:3-5; 2 Timothy 3:10-15; Titus 2:3-5).

According to the above article, two major family scholars, Andrew Cherlin and Isabel Sawhill, have recently released books tracing the decline of marriage. Each of these scholars "acknowledges the powerful scientific evidence that the decline of marriage has hurt children."

Ms. Gallagher suggests a solution: "Add a marriage message to existing government-funded teen-pregnancy prevention programs. Tell moderately educated young men and women the truth that college-educated people know and live by: It is better for you and your children to wait until you are married before you conceive a child."

Note the last above statement, "It is better for you and your children to wait until you are married before you conceive a child."

To which I add my hearty "Amen."

Dear reader, God's marriage plan for one man and one woman for life still works! (Matthew 19:1-9; Romans 7:1-3; Matthew 5:31-32). As Ms. Gallagher concludes under her above titled article, "Why Stick With Marriage? It's [marriage] still the best arrangement for kids — and parents."
