"Ever Becoming"

There is a proverb which states this truth: “Experience is the best teacher” (source). It is definitely through day-to-day living that we come to understand what life is all about. What we did not understand as children, because of a lack of knowledge, we now know as adults.

When we begin any new endeavor, we must first slowly gather and learn a fundamental knowledge of that endeavor, gathering more information and experience until we finally master it.

We begin our Christian walk like that. We start out inexperienced and with little knowledge, but then we “grow” in our understanding and commitment (cf. Hebrews 5:13; 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 3:18; Colossians 1:9-10).

Our Lord spent a good deal of His early life preparing for His ministry and work (Luke 2:40; Luke 2:46-47; Luke 2:52). Similarly, we are growing towards spiritual maturity in the ministry and work of the Lord (Philippians 3:13-15; 1 Corinthians 15:58).

In our Christian walk, we can never say that we have “arrived,” but rather that we are "ever becomingwhat God wants us to become. Let us therefore continue to learn and grow towards that end.
