Advice To One Addicted To Porn

One of my good preacher friends, Kevin Cauley, wrote an above titled article back in 2006, which offers five excellent steps for an individual addicted to porn to help extricate himself or herself from this terrible form of slavery (yes, Satan is an unrelenting taskmaster - Romans 6:15-16 NIV).
Regarding porn addiction, here are some additional thoughts and suggestions that I might add: In order to break a bad habit (or addiction), we must replace that bad habit with a good habit. Therefore, we must habitually:

1) Bring "every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5). Contrast this scripture with (Genesis 6:5). And closely connected to the controlling of the mind, is the controlling of the body and its desires (1 Corinthians 9:27 cf. Romans 6:11-13).
2) Memorize scriptures (Psalm 119:10-11; Psalm 37:30-31) to the point where we can quote them whenever we are tested by Satan in this area (or any other area - 1 John 2:15-16), just as our Lord did when He was tested (Matthew 4:1-11).
3) Like Job of old, we need to "make a covenant with our eyes" (Job 31:1) not to look upon a woman to lust after her (Matthew 5:28 - see article). If David would have made such a covenant with his eyes before looking on the beautiful Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11:1-2), he would more than likely have not have committed the sins of adultery and murder.
4) I would heartily recommend an Internet filter such as K9 Web Protection be installed on an individual's computer to insure protection against questionable web sites.

Dear reader, we are in an ongoing battle with Satan and his minions (Revelation 20:7-8; cf. Revelation 16:13-14). As I stated at the beginning of this article, "Satan is an unrelenting taskmaster." Sin's burdens are not only hard to bear, they will eventually become unbearable (Psalm 38:1-5). Contrast those burdens with the Lord's requirement (Matthew 11:28-30). His yoke of service and submission to God's will (Matthew 7:21; 1 John 5:1-3), are far lighter burdens than the ones Satan and sin place upon us.

P.S. Here is one other excellent article written by brother Kevin Cauley regarding the subject of modesty, that both men and women would be wise in reading and heeding.
