Daily Feeding On God's Word

The Bible records a surprising source of energy from the food that God provided Elijah the prophet. We recall that Elijah had been used by God on Mt. Carmel to call fire down from heaven (1 Kings 18:17-39). This occurrence was followed by a period of persecution and depression (1 Kings 19:1-4).

In response to Elijah's depression, God sent an angel to provide food, drink, and rest for the weary prophet (1 Kings 19:5-7).

The sustaining power of that food from heaven was remarkable:
"So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God" (1 Kings 19:8).
Just as we need food to sustain our physical lives, we also need nourishing food for our spiritual lives.

We read that God's word is, "sweeter .... than honey and the honeycomb" (Psalm 19:10) and it feeds our souls. It makes "wise the simple" (Psalm 19:7) and provides nourishment, energy, and protection for the Christian (Matthew 4:4; Romans 1:16; Ephesians 6:10-17).

Dear reader, let's take the time to daily feed on God's word! (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-2; Acts 17:11).
