Enduring Tempestuous Floods Against The Soul

The Psalmist in Psalm 93, declares that trouble sometimes comes to us in relentless waves that surge and pound against our souls and break upon them with furious force, "The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice" (Psalm 93:3) — and they are deafening.

Yet, above this deafening tempest, we hear the Psalmist's refrain:
"The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea" (Psalm 93:4).
Indeed, through the tempestuous storms of life, "The Lord reigns" (Psalm 93:1). He is clothed with majesty and strength. He sits as King, exalted higher than the waves that rise above us, deeper than their immeasurable depths, greater than their strongest surge (Psalm 93:4).

The storm is in His all-powerful hands. He rules the raging of the wind and sea (Mark 4:37-41; cf. Matthew 8:23-27). He speaks — and they are still (Mark 4:39).

Rest assured, dear reader — the storms of life will not last forever. And yet, while these storms rage, we can cling to the Lord's promises of love and faithfulness, for His "testimonies are very sure" (Psalm 93:5).

Waves of trouble and grief may sweep over us, but we will not be swept away because He "is able to keep you from stumbling" (Jude 1:24).

"When overwhelmed with problems,

When weak or tired or ill,
When storms are fierce and raging
Just hear His "Peace, be still." —Jarvis
