What The Bible Says About Proper Spiritual Dress

There's a controversy in our world regarding "how" we should properly dress before our fellow man. Some folks obviously think that the less clothing one wears, the cooler they become (which is not always true - see Step #3).

In this short study, let us see what the Bible says about proper spiritual dress for the Christian:

• We are to put on the garment of love (Colossians 3:14; cf. 1 Corinthians 13:1-7).
• We are to put on the garment of compassion and kindness (Luke 10:33-35; Genesis 50:15-21).
• We are to put on the garment of forgiveness (Luke 17:1-4; cf. Colossians 3:13).
• We are to put on the garment of humility (Philippians 2:5-8; James 4:10).
• We are to put on the garment of God's word (Ephesians 6:11-17).
• We are to put on the garment of steadfastness (1 Corinthians 15:58).
• We are to put on the garment of purity (Matthew 5:8; 1 Timothy 4:12; 1 Peter 1:22).
• We are to put on the garment of the "new man" (Ephesians 4:24).
• We are to put on the garment of light (Romans 13:12; cf. Ephesians 5:8; Philippians 2:15).
• We are to put on the garment of Christ, i.e., His holy and righteous character (Romans 13:14; cf. Gal. 2:20; 1 Peter 2:21-24; 1 John 2:6). 

Those individuals who have not yet rendered obedience to Christ and His salvation plan in order to become a Christian, must put on (be clothed with) Christ (Gal. 3:27 NASB) in order to gain entrance into the spiritual body of Christ, the church (Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:23; cf. Acts 2:47).
