It seems that the days when a real "live" person greets you on the other end of the telephone line is history. Whenever we try to "reach out and touch someone" by telephone, the only "someone" we reach is usually a computerized voice.
Aren't we thankful that this isn't true of our heavenly Father. He's always there to receive our calls and listen to His children (Deuteronomy 5:27-28). With Him, there are no voice-mail boxes; no "press 2 for grace and forgiveness"; no "call waiting" interruptions. No more "all lines are busy now — your call is important to us — please stay on the line" business.
In contrast to all of the above, our Lord tells us:
He paid a great price to keep the lines of communication open so that we can hear Him and experience the joy of being still long enough to know that He is God (Psalm 85:8; Psalm 46:10).
As the words of the old inspiring hymn, "I Come To The Garden Alone" tell us:
"And He walks with me,
and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known." —C. Austin Miles

He speaks to us when we come attentively before Him in prayer and through the clear teachings of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Philippians 4:6; 1 Corinthians 2:1-5).
