As individual members in the Lord's church, we must keep "movin' on" to greater accomplishments, never being content with how far we've come with past accomplishments. If we do not have some direction, purpose, or plan in mind, we will never go anywhere.
However, as critical as commitment and proper direction are, they are worthless if they are not consistently pursued. When the Hebrew writer addressed his Christian readers in the first century, it was to move them on beyond the foundation of first principles (Hebrews 6:1-2). Sufficient time had elapsed when they should have gone on beyond the milk, to the meat of the Word (Hebrews 5:9-14). To remain where they were, spiritually speaking, meant they were losing ground.
If we're not going forward, we're going backward. There's really no such thing as "just keeping house" in the Lord's kingdom. We have tremendous opportunities as the Lord's people existing in our current culture and time. We must utilize the open doors of opportunity that God has provided us. We have visitors virtually every week in congregations of the Lord's church throughout the world that we need to be reaching out to with the gospel.
We need to be "movin' on" with a great sense of urgency to reach those who manifest interest in spiritual things. Individually, each of us need to grow toward spiritual maturity in Christ (cf. Ephesians 4:13-15; Colossians 1:27-29; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). As congregations of the Lord's people, we have challenges before us to (1) help support more preachers of the Word; (2) persuade more lost people to obey the gospel in our communities; (3) teach our children about the Savior; (4) build a stronger congregation and create a greater unity among believers.
We have come a long way, but we must keep "movin' on," or like water, we will become stagnant, eventually drying up.
