A Way To Prevent Divorce

From Psychology Today, we read that “according to researchers at the University of Michigan, there are three adverse experiences during childhood that are particularly likely to lead to bouts of major depression in adulthood. At the top of the list is growing up in a violent home. Parental mental illness and parental divorce are close behind.

Children are more likely to suffer from depression when they grow up if their parents divorce, than if one dies.

The prophet Malachi tells us:
For the LORD God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts.” (Malachi 2:16).
The inspired writer Paul gives us a way to prevent divorce from ever occurring:
Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband” (Ephesians 5:33; cf. Colossians 3:19)
Dear reader, let us work at making our marriages successful as God intended them to be (Matthew 19:3-6one man and one woman for life! (Genesis 2:20-25).
