How Big Is Your God?

For some religious folks, God remains a jealous, vengeful and capricious power, playing favorites instead of how the Bible portrays Him — a loving and impartial Ruler who has the right to demand justice and righteousness (Romans 2:1-11; Acts 17:22-31).

The Bible also portrays God as the God who gives and demands love from His people, just like a father does from his children (Matthew 6:24-34; Matthew 22:34-40; Hebrews 12:5-11).

The Bible teaches that the Lord remains the same, unchanging since the beginning of time (Numbers 23:19; Malachi 3:6; James 1:17). It is only man’s concept of God that changes.

How we think of God, makes a difference in our behavior (note the contrast of attitude between Genesis 39:7-10; Acts 5:1-11). The individual whose God is too small, will be inadequate to address the demands of life. A God that is small enough for our understanding, is not large enough to meet our needs.

Even if we diligently search all of our lives, we will never know all there is know about God (Ecclesiastes 8:16-17; Isaiah 55:8; Romans 11:33-36).

However, it is entirely possible and desirable for us to keep on spiritually growing in our knowledge and love of God (1 Peter 2:1-2; 2 Peter 3:18), worshiping the God that is big enough to handle all our exigencies (Philippians 4:19; 1 Peter 5:6-7).
