From the 2006, volume 44, number 1 edition of The Sword and Staff, pg. 2, come the following proverbs of wisdom along with appropriate articles.

Hope insulates against discouragement and despair.

Repentance is a change of mind that produces a change of life.

It is only in getting ready to die that we really learn how to live.

People with warm hearts are not as likely to get cold feet.

If you would enhance your image, just remember that you were made in the "image" and "likeness" of God, and live accordingly.

Let your word be your bond, and then be bound by your word.

By not wasting your time, you will find that you have more time to get things done.

Living the restrained [disciplined] life produces unrestrained joy, contentment, and happiness.

Manners have more to do with what manner of person you are, rather than a set of rules.

Live so close to God that there will be no room for the devil to come between.

"An Honest Man's Word Is As Good As His Bond"

Miguel de Cervantes , Spanish novelist, playwright, and poet, the creator of Don Quixote, the most famous figure in Spanish literature, is quoted as saying, “ An honest man’s word is as good as his bond ” ( source ). When one gives his word, it should mean that he will do what he has agreed to do, regardless, even if it means personal convenience or inconvenience; at personal gain or loss. There was a time when large sums of money or property changed hands based on a handshake (yes, this writer remembers that time). And, if a man was known not to stand by his word, folks would not deal with him because he was not trustworthy enough to stand behind what he said.

Let's Never "Wrest" The Scriptures!

In 2 Peter 3:16 ASV, Paul warns us about those who would “ wrest ” scripture. To “ wrest ” is to pervert, change, twist, torture or abuse the divine text. Many misuse the Bible to justify sinful actions by taking a passage out of its context or misapplying the Scriptures. We should not be surprised that this happens, since Satan himself, who is knowledgeable of God’s Word, seeks to pervert it ( Matthew 4:5-7 ).
