Where Is True Security Found?

As we read of the ongoing killings in Iraq and places throughout our own country, we are made to wonder if we can feel secure anywhere. As companies and school districts lay off employees by the thousands, we learn that there is no such thing as “job security.”

As one Christian writer correctly observed:
Security is not ultimately found in anything physical. In nature there are things against which we are unable to protect ourselves. When even terra firma shakes and cracks so as to move the oceans, we are graciously reminded that our bodies are but dust and our life-spans are vaporous. This realization drives some to party, “for tomorrow we die,” while others are driven to their knees to worship their Creator and their only hope of salvation. While the godless wring their anxious hands over the future of this globe, the God-fearing fold their hands in prayer, committing their souls to the only One who offers something truly unshakable” (source).
Dear reader, let us realize that we live in a very fragile environment, as witnessed by the recent catastrophic events in Japan and in the southern part of the United States. Our very lives can be snuffed out in an instant.

As the above writer states, let us therefore “commit our souls to the only One who offers a place that truly unshakable” (Hebrews 12:22-29) — the only place where true security is found, remembering that the kingdoms of this earth will pass away, but the kingdom of heaven will exist forever (Psalms 145:8-13; Daniel 7:14,27; Micah 4:7; Luke 1:32-33; Revelation 11:15).
