The God Of Order And Power

The predicted return of Halley’s Comet to our inner solar system in 2061, proves the orderliness of the universe. If there were no fixed set of laws governing the movement of all the celestial bodies in the universe, such predictions would be virtually impossible to make.

We can also look at the orderly orbits of the planets in our solar system, and plainly see God’s hand in these celestial certainties.

In Jeremiah 33:25-26, God presents the certainty of the covenant relationship between Himself and His people, by using a scientific fact in an analogy. God says that His fixed universal laws — His appointment of “the ordinances of heaven and earth” — carry the same certainty as His promises to His covenant people:

“Thus says the Lord: ‘If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’”

Therefore, we can mark our calendars with absolute certainty, that Halley‘s Comet will indeed return in 2061, and then be amazed at God’s orderliness and power (Colossians 1:12-17; Hebrews 1:1-3; cf. Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 33:6-9; Acts 17:24; Revelation 4:11; Revelation 14:7).
