9/11: Did These Die In Vain?

Brother Rick Kelley, preacher for the Prestonsburg congregation in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, has recently written an above titled article regarding the impact that the September 11 attack has had on our society since its occurrence 13 years ago.

He wonders if the people who died in that attack, "died in vain?" Did that attack motivate the people of our nation to turn to God for moral guidance and spiritual insight?

Brother Kelley brings the following assessment and conclusion:

"One Monday morning America was brought to her knees, and she promised God that if she ever got out of that mess, she wouldn't do it again. Today, America is obliviously drunk again, and passed out on the bathroom floor. She's not even begging for another chance. She hasn't learned a thing.  

Today, 13 short years later, I am of the persuasion that these 2,977 souls, indeed, sadly, perished in vain. Their deaths failed to crystallize the message. Today, their blood fails to do little more than paint a picture, elicit an emotion, and serve as backdrop to national security and border control conversations. It goes no deeper than that. We are too superficial a society. We are sad, but we are not sorry." 

I totally agree with brother Kelley's assessment and conclusion. Sadly, our society hasn't learned a thing, spiritually speaking, during these subsequent 13 years.

Could it be that our nation's leaders need to possess the same spiritual mindset (humility) as Nineveh's leaders did of old? (Jonah 3).
