Is There A Difference Between The Terms "Sanctification" And "Justification"?

An individual once asked, “Does the Bible teach that there is a difference between sanctification and justification? Or are those two things essentially the same?” Answer: Yes, there is a difference between the two terms. The basic meaning of the word “sanctify” means to “set apart” or to dedicate one’s life in service to God.

The word “justify” means to be pronounced or declared as being “righteous.” Both are accomplished through obedience to the gospel of Christ (Romans 4:1-25; Romans 5:1-21; Romans 6:1-23; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews 10:22).

The following are definitions of these words and their usage in the New Testament: 1) sanctify; 2) justify

A more detailed study of these two terms is provided by brother Wayne Jackson, editor of the Christian Courier:

2) Justified By Faith
