Christians And "Alice In Wonderland"

In the children’s storybook, entitled, “Alice in Wonderland,” there is an interesting conversation between the principal character, Alice, and the Cheshire Cat. In the conversation, Alice asks, “Would you tell me please, which way I ought to go from here?” The cat responds by saying, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice responds by saying, “I don’t much care where,” to which the cat replies, “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go” (source).

And so it is. Christians without goals, are much like the response that Alice gave in the above story — “I don’t much care where.” They have no purpose, no plan, and no direction.

However, for the Christian, there is no excuse for not knowing what the will of the Lord is regarding man’s salvation (Matthew 7:21; Ephesians 5:17), for He has provided us with the following goals and how to achieve them:

1) Purpose — “To seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). One of the ways this goal is achieved, is by getting out of the church building and going to where the lost people are, i.e., “the highways” (Matthew 22:9-10; cf. Acts 8:25-35).

2) Plan — “Teach them [all nations] to observe all things that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:20; cf. Mark 16:15-16). This directive includes the teaching of all the information contained in the doctrine of Christ (Romans 6:17; 2 Timothy 1:13-14; cf. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2; Acts 8:34-35).

3) Direction — “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” This goal is achieved when we “baptize them [all individuals in all nations] in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

Beloved, let us seriously think about the above goals and then take the necessary action to achieve them!
