"Is God's Word Enough?"

Brother David Diestelkamp, one of the writers of the online Christian publication, “Think On These Things,” has asked a soul-penetrating question in his article entitled, “Is God’s Word Enough?

In his article, Brother Diestelkamp emphasizes the fact that in today’s “religious” society, with all of it’s secular trappings, many folks today would have felt very uncomfortable in the simple environment that surrounded the teaching and preaching of the first century.

He then asks this question:

Is the pure teaching of God’s word enough?

The answer to Brother Diestelkamp’s question can be found in the conversion account of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:26-40. The eunuch asked a question about Isaiah 53:7-8.

Luke records that Philip responds: “Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him” (Acts 8:35; cf. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; 1 Corinthians 2:1-2).

After Philip taught the eunuch about our Lord’s provision for our salvation through the plain teaching of God’s word, the eunuch gladly rendered obedience to the Lord’s salvation plan (Acts 8:36-39).

Going back to Brother Diestelkamp‘s article title question, “Is God’s word enough?

Answer: Yes, Brother Diestelkamp — more than enough! (Romans 1:16; cf. 1 Corinthians 1:17-18).
