American Idols

Brother Jeff Randolph, a member of the Saline congregation in Saline, Michigan, has written an excellent article entitled “American Idols” in which he emphasizes the various idols that Americans worship today.

He lists four:

1) People
2) Possessions
3) Pleasure
4) Nature

In his concluding remarks, he asks and answers this question: “So America has idols, who cares?”

God cares (Exodus 20:3-5; Deuteronomy 6:14; Matthew 4:10; Matthew 22:37)

Christians should care:

1) Be careful of the influence and “conscience searing” (1 Timothy 4:2).
2) What agreement has the temple of God with idols? (2 Corinthians 6:16-17)
3) We should be motivated to speak against these American Idols as Paul was of those in Athens (Acts 17:16).

Beloved, if we are embracing any form of idol worship, may we be willing to give these idols up, repent, and pattern our lives after the inspired principles found in God’s word (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
