A Change Of Address

If we have ever changed addresses, we have probably received or sent a change of address notice. It goes something like this: “I will no longer be receiving mail at (fill in the blank). My new address will be (fill in the blank). Thank you for making a note of this change.

Paul reminded the Colossian brethren that they had experienced “a change of address” and they should share that change with others. They had been moved from one community into a new community. They had been rescued from the kingdom of darkness and been brought into the kingdom of God’s Son (Colossians 1:13).

Digitally speaking, their old e-mail address had been “sinner@kingdomofdarkness,” but when they became members of the Lord’s church (cf. Acts 2:37-47), their new e-mail address became “saved@kingdomofHisdearSon.”

In Philippians 3:20, Paul declared to the brethren at Philippi: “For our citizenship is in heaven …..

They once were citizens of the world, engaging in worldly lusts and pleasures (Colossians 3:5-10), but they had changed addresses, and should now live worthy of that new address (Philippians 1:27 NASB). He encouraged the brethren in Colosse to walk in wisdom toward those who were outside the faith so that folks could see and hear about the changes (Colossians 4:5-6).

Beloved, if we have had “a change of address” recently, let’s tell someone about Jesus (Acts 8:35) and what He’s done for us (Titus 3:4-6).
