God Is Good!

Brother David P. Stevens, preacher for the Groveport church of Christ in Groveport, Ohio, has written an insightful article entitled, “God Is Good!” His Bible-based article emphasizes God’s caring provision for the nation of Israel during their 40 years of wilderness wanderings — an amazing feat!

When one considers the magnitude of such an effort, in caring for approximately three million people, one realizes the awesome power of God and His ability to not only create life (Genesis 1), but to sustain life as well (Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:3; cf. Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 36:6).

God’s people must not have realized God’s ability to provide. As Brother Stevens points out: “tempting God reveals that they were not confident that God would take care of them. They should have trusted God, instead they tempted Him. They should have feared God, instead they forgot Him. They should have loved God, instead they left Him.

As God’s people today, do we not sometimes have a similar mindset during times of abundance?

In closing his article, Brother Stevens observes: “We live in the midst of abundance. We experience the goodness of God every day. We must not stop trusting God and start trusting in the material things that He has provided.

Lest we forget God, let us take heed of the warning the Hebrew writer has recorded for us in Hebrews 3:12: “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Echoing Brother Stevens’ sentiments, let us never forget how good God has been to each one of us! (Acts 14:14-17; Acts 17:24-25).
