Is There Really A Holy Spirit?

A querist asks, “Is there really a Holy Spirit?” Yes, the Holy Spirit is a person with the ability to do things only a person can do. According to the holy Scriptures:
  • The Holy Spirit "teaches" (John 14:26).
  • The Holy Spirit reproves or "convicts" (John 16:8).
  • The Holy Spirit is a "guide" (John 16:13).
  • The Holy Spirit "hears" and "speaks" (John 16:13).
  • The Holy Spirit is one who is affected as a person. He may be "grieved" (Ephesians 4:30); "vexed" (Isaiah 63:10); "lied to" (Acts 5:3); "resisted" or rejected (1 Thessalonians 5:19).
  • The Holy Spirit, as a person, appointed and directed God’s chosen men (Acts 13:2).
  • The Holy Spirit makes "intercessions" for the saints of God (Romans 8:26).
  • The Holy Spirit "strengthens" (Ephesians 3:16).
  • The Holy Spirit "sanctifies" (2 Thessalonians 2:13).
  • The Holy Spirit "saves" (Titus 3:5).
  • The Holy Spirit "justifies" (1 Timothy 3:16)
  • The Holy Spirit "witnesses" to us (Hebrews 10:15).
  • The Holy Spirit "prompts" us to love God (Romans 5:5).
  • The Holy Spirit will eventually "raise" us from the dead (Romans 8:11).
