What Was the Urim And The Thummim?

An individual once asked, “In your study of the Bible, can you please explain (in simple terms) the operation and purpose of the Urim and the Thummim that the high priest (Aaron) was required to wear when he entered into the holy place (Exodus 28:29-30).

I’m especially interested in finding out what the latter portion of Exodus 28:30 KJV means which states: “and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.(1) In what manner did Aaron “bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually?”; (2) Is there a “type” of the Urim and the Thummim in the New Testament?

1) A study of the Urim & Thummim is provided here, here, and here.

2) For the answer to question (1) above, see commentary on Exodus 28:30. Also, see a study of the high priest and his function here.

3) The answer to question (2) above is "No there is no "type" of the Urim and Thummim in the New Testament. There is no need for such because God's revelation to man is now complete. All we need to do now, is to "Open The Book— then read it, heed it, and obey it!
