Undergoing A Spiritual Checkup

Given a choice, I’d probably not voluntarily visit my doctor for a physical exam, because it seems that he can always find something wrong with me. Spiritually speaking, many of us are a little afraid of spiritual checkups as well. We might have to change a habit or two. We might need to undergo something like a dramatic “attitude adjustment.”

Perhaps we need to get over our reluctance for a thorough spiritual examination (2 Corinthians 13:5). With God’s guidance, let’s undergo a spiritual checkup today, using Proverbs 4:20-27 as a checklist:
  • Ears (Proverbs 4:20) – Are we hearing God’s Word clearly and with understanding? Are we doing what His words tell us?
  • Eyes (Proverbs 4:21; Proverbs 4:25) – Are we keeping our eyes on God’s teachings that will guide us toward righteousness?
  • Heart (Proverbs 4:23) – Are we protecting our heart from evil?
  • Tongue (Proverbs 4:24) – Is our mouth clean and pure?
  • Feet (Proverbs 4:26) – Are we walking in God’s truth without wavering? (cf. 1 John 1:7).
How did we do on today's spiritual examination? Are there areas where we need to take action? Remember that regular spiritual checkups will help to restore our spiritual vitality (2 Corinthians 13:5).
