What Does "Baptized For The Dead" Mean?

An individual once asked, “In 1 Corinthians 15:29 KJV, what does the phrase, “baptized for the dead” refer to in this verse?”

Using the King James Version, the text reads:

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

Here is a study by Brother Dave Miller of Apologetics Press suggesting four possible interpretations that have contextual evidence to support them.

Because of the use of the word, “they” (third person pronoun) in 1 Corinthians 15:29, this Bible student prefers the fourth interpretation that Brother Miller presents in his article. Brother Burton Coffman also agrees with this interpretation in his commentary regarding this verse.
