"The Foolishness Of The Message"

In 1 Corinthians 1:21, the inspired writer Paul wrote: “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”

At first reading, this verse seems like an oxymoron. How could it be wise on God’s part to accomplish salvation using a message of foolishness? And how could any message that has the power to save the souls of lost sinners be foolish? Does this mean we who have believed in the message of the gospel are fools?
