In his above titled article, leadership guru, Paul Sohn provides us with thoughts from 1 Peter 5:2-6 which states: “Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Mr. Sohn points out these 5 key attributes of what constitutes a godly leader from the above text:
1) Shepherds (those who nurture, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is (your responsibility).
2) Christian models (not domineering, arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing).
3) Respectful of all people.
4) Clothed with humility.
5) Submitted to God.
Mr. Sohn then makes the following succinct closing statements:
"Before I rise to any challenge of leadership task whether big or small, first and foremost I must nourish, guard, and nurture my soul. “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?” (Matthew 16:26). When my heart is at the right place, I can truly become authentic as a leader."
Amen and Amen, Mr. Sohn!
