Three Needed Conditions Of An Acceptable Prayer

In my Sunday morning Bible class, we are studying the encouraging and joyful book of Philippians. In Philippians 4:6-7, the apostle Paul encourages us with these words:

"Don’t worry over anything whatever; tell God every detail of your needs in earnest and thankful prayer, and the peace of God which transcends human understanding, will keep constant guard over your hearts and minds as they rest in Christ Jesus" (J.B. Phillips translation).

As I pointed out to the class, there are at least three needed conditions of prayer that must be addressed before our prayers can be acceptable before God:

1) Our prayers must be earnest and from the heart (see example).

2) We must keep the commandments of God, doing those things that are pleasing in His sight (1 John 3:21-22; cf. John 8:29).

3) Our prayer petitions must be in keeping with God's will (1 John 5:14-15).

Also note the spiritual principle taught in James 5:16-18; cf. John 15:7; 9:31).
