The writer of Proverbs once stated: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34).
This spiritual principle is clearly exemplified in the lives of the last three kings of Judah.
As God's people, we should do everything possible to elect and support political office holders of high moral character.
Although God ordains the powers that be (Romans 13:1), He will sometimes allow wicked and immoral people to gain high positions of power and authority (see article).
The actions of such people can be a trial to our faith and devotion. Therefore, we should pray daily for our elected rulers and also be willing to reject any negative examples they put forth (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
