"Rules For Thee, But Not For Me"

When I saw this picture of the Mayor of El Paso and his entourage not following his own safety guidelines by not wearing a mask or practicing social distancing (see article), I thought of what Jesus said to His followers regarding the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees of His day in Matthew 23:1-4:

"All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers."

The pervasive attitude of politicians seems to be, "Rules for thee, but not for me."

Beloved, as followers and examples of Christ, we not only have to "talk the talk" ..... but "walk the walk."

The Mayor of El Paso and his entourage need to do the same.
