It seems that Albuquerque is finally realizing the truth found in Matthew 7:7 NLT and is making a great application of it by providing the homeless the ability to become self-sustaining, providing them with real jobs.
In her recent article, Author Eillie Anzilotti writes that Mayor Richard Berry once saw a man with a sign that read, "Will Work For Food." Since the Mayor has always made homelessness a priority, he decided to begin a program that specifically reaches out to panhandlers who would rather work than be on the streets.
As a result, the "There's A Better Way" program is fast becoming a success story — so much so that other city governments are hoping to replicate the model.
Beloved, the Bible has never promoted a welfare state, but does promote a work ethic system (1 Thessalonians 4:9-11; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; cf. Matthew 20:1-7) designed to put people to work.
