If we live long enough, we will have periods where we feel the anxiety of hopelessness and bitterness in our lives. They can be caused by a multitude of causes, such as the death of a spouse or loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a best friend, etc.

I especially like tip number two — Focus Upon What Matters. Setting our priorities and goals on things above, rather than on earthly things, is of primary importance, because earthly things will one day be just a memory (Colossians 3:1-4; 2 Peter 3:10-14).
