Still Worshiping The Almighty Dollar

It's sad to see, that on the cover song of singer Glen Campbell's last studio album entitled, Adiós, that alcohol just had to be mentioned in the beginning lyrics:

"Ran away from home when I was seventeen, To be with you on the California coast, Drinking margaritas all night in the old cantina, Out on the California coast."

Most people are familiar with Glen Campbell's battle with alcohol and drug abuse, and it's impact on the Alzheimer's disease he presently has (see here).

So, why would the writer (or writers) of Glen's above song include alcohol in the lyrics? Simply because they know that alcohol sells and still brings in the money, and that many people in our nation are "hooked" on alcohol (see stats here and here). And the more "hooked" folks are, the more money it brings in. It's a sad scenario indeed.

This means that the citizens of our nation are still worshiping the Almighty Dollar (see here) rather than Almighty God. It's amazing to this writer, that people get up in arms about giving alcohol to an animal to drink (see here), and yet many people give it to their sons and daughters, business associates and friends. Along with all of the advertising media, they continually urge them to drink it (it's a poison, you know!).

Folks, how crazy can our society become? (to ask the question, is to answer the question!).

Let’s remember what Solomon stated about intoxicating beverages: “Wine is a mocker, Intoxicating drink arouses brawling, And whosoever is led astray by it is not wise” (Proverbs 20:1). And what King Lemuel's mother instructed him regarding the drinking of wine (Proverbs 31:1-9 NLT). Know that alcohol impairs judgment!

Beloved, worshiping the Almighty Dollar will land us in hell if we're not careful (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NLT).
