As I read these two articles here and here regarding Donald Trump and Warren Buffet's eating habits (also see here and here), I thought to myself, "Is this all today's news media has to report?" Folks, it must be a slow news day.
My late father ate what he wanted to eat, and a lot of what he wanted eat was cooked in lard (pig fat). Several years ago, cooking in lard was considered a no-no. Today, cooking in lard is "the in thing" (see here and here). In fact, it is even considered "healthy" (see here).
Over the years, several people told my father to stop cooking with lard,, or he was going to suffer an early death. Well, those same people are now dead and my father, with all of that lard in his system, lived to be 89+ years old (7 months short of 90). So much for human advice!
From what this writer has experienced in life, human longevity all boils down to three things: (1) Having the right genes (see here and here); (2) Using common sense (Ecclesiastes 2:14), as Warren Buffett does in limiting his caloric intake to 2,500 calories per day (see here).
In other words, don't go to extremes (Ecclesiastes 7:16-18; cf. Proverbs 25:16,27 ) in our eating habits. In fact, use moderation in all things, including food intake.
And (3), the most important aspect of human longevity, is the exhortation to seek heavenly wisdom from the Lord (Proverbs 2; cf. James 1:5-7), and walk with Him by obeying His commandments (Proverbs 3:1-6 NET).
And if we wanted to include a fourth thing, with regards to human longevity, it would be "to love what we do" .... and do it with great passion (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
