As I read this human interest story about a Marine in the Vietnam War, who lived through fourteen years of torture and confinement as a prisoner of war, I thought about the resiliency and persistence of the human spirit in extremely trying times.
Then I thought about similar qualities the apostle Paul possessed as he experienced equally trying times during his ministry (2 Corinthians 11:23-33).
Beloved, as followers of Christ, we too can endure the atrocities of life, if we will but "fix our eyes on Jesus" (Hebrews 12:1-2 NASB), the One who endured the most horrific atrocity of all.
