"Que Sera, Sera" And The Future

"Que Sera, Sera", first published in 1956, is a popular song written by the songwriting team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. The song was introduced in the Alfred Hitchcock film "The Man Who Knew Too Much", starring Doris Day and James Stewart in the lead roles (see here). The lyrics to this song (see here), tell us in the chorus:"Que sera, sera, Whatever will be, will be, The future's not ours to see, Que sera, sera, What will be, will be"

While it is true that we as finite human beings cannot see into the future, our omniscient God can (see here). And because He can, we can. Though His inspired word, God reveals two future events in the book of Revelation - see article (second coming of Christ - Revelation 19:11-16; cf. Acts 1:9-11; Revelation 1:7, and the Day of Judgment (see herehere, and here) - Revelation 20:11-15.

As Christians, we will see (and are presently seeing) the fact that the apostle Paul was correct when he stated in 2 Timothy 3:12-13 ESV, "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived." This prediction sounds like the evil society described in Genesis 6:5 NLT.

Jesus' predictions regarding hatred, betrayal, false prophets, and those who deceive in Matthew 24:9-12 NLT, are just as true for those of us living in the society of the twenty-first century, as those folks living in the society of the first century to whom Jesus was speaking: “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold."

Through the inspired word of God, we can indeed see the future, and the future looks mighty grim. However, we must continue to be faithful to God and to His word during this time of societal turmoil in order to receive that victory crown that has been promised to all of the faithful (2 Timothy 1:13; 3:14; Revelation 2:10 NLT).
