Why Do People Have To Be In Constant Motion?

As I was taking my afternoon walk today, it took me fifteen minutes to walk across a main city street not far from my house because of the oncoming traffic. So many drivers were motoring down the street, it looked like the congestion one would find on Interstate 10. At $2.75 per gallon of gas here in El Paso, one would think that folks would be more frugal with their money than to waste it on high-priced gas with no particular destination in mind.

Living on Social Security, this writer doesn't have the gas money to waste on non-essential trips. Which makes me wonder why people seemingly have to be in constant motion (the wheels rolling under them). One answer could be that people are just plain bored with nothing else left to do but to get in their automobiles and drive aimlessly down the street for no particular reason.

By not aimlessly driving down the roadway, we not only cut our weekly fuel consumption (saving us money), but we can wisely use this allotted time to read and study God's word.

If folks could only learn to be still instead of being in constant motion.

Practicing the discipline of stillness provides us with several benefits (see here).

Beloved, let us meditate on the above thoughts!
