The following are some thoughts to ponder on the tongue:
—Mike Riley, Gospel Snippets
- Some men have a tongue as rough as a cat’s, and biting as an adder.
- If you have a good temper, keep it. If you have a bad temper, don’t lose it!
- Gossip is something negative that is developed and then enlarged.
- The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue (source).
- The tongue was intended for an organ of divine praise; but the devil often plays upon it, and then it sounds like the screech-owl.
- A poisoned tongue is harmless without a receptive ear.
- A narrow mind and a wide mouth makes a dangerous combination.
- A religious critic is a person who cannot function until some one does a work he can pass judgment on.
- There is no such thing as “idle gossip.” Gossip is always a busy-body.
- It is better to say a good thing about a bad fellow than to say a bad thing about a good fellow.
- One word “whispered” will ruin a reputation, embitter a whole life, break a family’s heart, or even cause suicide.
- Avoid the devil’s dimensions: A narrow mind, a low heart, a closed fist, a wide open mouth, and a high head.
- Every time you speak, your mind is on parade.
- Someone has said that a man who believes it all right to tell “little white lies” soon becomes color blind.
- It is easy to find fault; appreciation requires intelligence and character.
- For good or ill, your conversation is your advertisement. Every time you open your mouth, you let men look into your mind.
