Seems like everyone is gearing up for Mother's Day tomorrow. They will be honoring their mothers by taking them out to a restaurant, providing them with a tasty meal, flowers, and perhaps a beautiful corsage. Others will call their mothers on the telephone, wishing them a "Happy Mother's Day."While all of the above honors are good, in and of themselves, they are temporary. However, there's another way to give honor to our mothers on a lasting basis, and that is by living honorable and godly lives, thereby exerting a positive and powerful influence on others (Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:11-12).
For example, take the righteous life of Abel who offered an acceptable sacrifice before God (Genesis 4:4). And because he offered that sacrifice which was pleasing to God, his obedient life before God is still speaking to us today (Hebrews 11:4). Enoch's life still provides testimony to us living today, "that he pleased God" (Hebrews 11:5).
So through our obedient and godly lives, we too can exert a powerful influence on the lives of others, even after we pass from this life.
Beloved, let us truly honor our mother's, not only tomorrow, but every day, living honorable and godly lives before people with whom we associate! Our world is watching!
