The War On Drugs And Motivation

As I read this American Thinker article regarding President Trump's war on drugs, my thought was that the war on drugs is similar in nature to the war on poverty that President Lyndon Johnson promoted in the 1960's. Both of these wars will never be won until we change the mindset and motivation of people.

As "neal of the jarhead clan" states in the comments section of the above article: "To "win" the war on drugs, you must first get everyone to WANT to be clean and sober. If the desire is not there you have lost the first engagement of your war!! And as long as there is as many reasons to get high or drunk as there is people you WILL LOSE the entire war!!!"

The key word in the above comment is WANT. Not only the renewing and cleansing of the minds of men and women (see here and here) is key to winning the war on drugs, but the "want" factor, i.e., the motivation factor of an individual is key as well. To Christians, we "want" (or motivated) to do what our Lord commands us to do, simply because of what He has done for us (Romans 5:1-11 - see here and here), demonstrating His agape love by dying on the cross for our sins.

The motivation of man to change his mindset, must come from a higher source than anything in the fleshly realm. It must come from the spiritual realm - from Almighty God Himself (2 Peter 1:1-4). This is why mankind must get back to the Bible, to God, and to moral sanity.

The apostle Paul once stated that he would not be brought under the power of "anything" (1 Corinthians 6:12) -- and that includes drugs (see article). The question becomes, what motivates us? The love of the world (1 John 2:15-17), or the love of Christ? Remember that we are slaves to whatever or whoever controls us (Romans 6:16; Matthew 6:24; John 8:34; 2 Peter 2:18-19 NLT).

Beloved, having been given the God-given power of choice, the choice is always ours. Choose well (Joshua 24:15).
