"Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear To Tread"

As this writer read this KFOX14 article today, regarding the average amount of money that El Paso residents spend per month on lottery tickets ($101+ dollars per month), I had to shake my head in disbelief. Here are the poverty rate stats for El Paso.

Question: How many winners are there who play the Texas Lottery? (miniscule --- see here). According to this statistic, the odds of winning Lotto Texas are one in 25,827,165. Looking at this statistic, the chances of being struck by lightning once in a given year are around one in 700,000.

According to the above stats, an individual has a far better chance of being hit by lightning than winning the Texas Lottery. In looking at the above stats, I'm reminded of the classic song made popular by singer Frank Sinatra (scroll down) back in the 1940's (see video). In verse one the lyrics state: "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread"; the lyrics in verse three state: "Fools rush in where wise men never go" (see lyrics).

Folks, the above statistics and lyrics should tell us everything we need to know about the foolishness of gambling ..... but if we are still not convinced, let us ask ourselves the following question (considering biblical principles):

What should the Christian's attitude be toward gambling? (or anyone else with common sense).
