"Folks, You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up" --- And An Observation

This writer noticed in the morning news that country singer, Blake Shelton was named People Magazine's "sexiest man alive" (see article). Folks, if old Blake is the sexiest man alive (after being twice divorced and presently partnering (see #5) with Gwen Stefani), then Miley Cyrus would have to be the "sexiest woman alive" (actually, she is one of the most immoral women alive - including this woman).

If I were Blake Shelton, I would first shave my face, and then see if I could qualify myself as God's "Good Man" rather than being titled the "sexiest man" (a subjective title, to say the least). Then I noticed where Lady Gaga wore the shortest shorts imaginable to the World Series (see article).

This writer wonders: (1) whatever happened to modesty and the 3-D's? And (2) don't these folks have mirrors? It's obvious to this writer, that there is no shame in our ungodly society (see article) and no sense of morality at all.

"Folks, you just can't make this stuff up!"

And here is the observation: According to this USA Today article, the average household debt in America is $137, 063, while the median household income was only $59,039 last year. The suggestion is that many Americans are, "living beyond their means." WOW! No kidding. We know from past history, that spending ourselves into oblivion does not end well. Doesn't anyone in our society understand money and frugality? (here are 7 money saving tips to frugal living). Or looking at the life of the "poor widow" mentioned in Mark 12:41-44, how about the word "sacrifice"?

Do we not know of the old Ben Franklin adage, "A penny saved is a penny earned"? Folks, there's a secret to saving money, and one of those secrets (besides saving the money we earn) is that "every penny counts" (yes, even the ones we find on the walkways and parking lots!). Why do we save our money? (1) to help the less fortunate folks (note the principles of giving in 2 Corinthians 8-9); (2) to realize that "The Rainy Day Is Coming" (one of my late grandmother's favorite maxims); and (3) to be good stewards of what God has so richly blessed us with.
